The Legend of Zelda

The very first The Legend of Zelda game was released in Japan in 1986, and a year later in North America. It was the very first home console game to have a backup battery installed in the cartridge to allow saving progress. The Legend of Zelda was an instant hit, selling over 6.5 million copies.

The series is still very popular and successful to this day, with sequels like Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword considered modern classics.

There is cuurently a new Zelda game in the works for the Wii U, and Nintendo has said that more details of this game will be presented at E3 2014.

I totally agree. The old ones hold up very well, and the news ones are all instant classics. My favorite one is still the original NES Zelda.
